The IBEW Local 236 Community Outreach mission is simple. We want to do our part to help those in need in the Capital District of New York. By keeping a pulse on our membership and our community, we reach out to those struggling and lend a helping hand.
The group was formed in 2018 by John Mosher, Justin Tougas, Alfred Blakley, Colleen Kelliher, Nathan Recheizer and some other people I can’t think of right now. I’m sure if I put this here, John will tell me who else. We had heard of some members who were sick and struggling to make ends meet, so we got together and asked ourselves “What can we do to help?” A spaghetti dinner fundraiser was held that raised money to ease the burden of bills that don’t stop just because you have fallen ill. The recipients were elated and it was a reminder that there is still good in the world.
Since then, we have volunteered at soup kitchens, assisted Wreaths Across America in honoring the service of the heroes of our country, adopted several families during the holiday season and purchased gifts for them, and held other fundraisers for those in need. We have engaged local businesses in our mission and called on them to assist us in any way possible, and many have stepped up to do just that – through time and monetary assistance.
We are always looking for new causes to support. Do you think you know of someone in need, or are you familiar with an organization that we could partner with? Drop us a line.
